The LSU School of Education honored Lutrill and Pearl Payne of Natchitoches yesterday by naming the college after them.
With many moments of reflection, faculty, family, and friends of the Payne family spoke on the many trials and hardships they faced trying to pursue higher education.
Lutrill and Pearl were the first African Americans to attend LSU. Lutrill graduated from Southern University and then sued to attend LSU for graduate school, winning and earning his master’s degree. Pearl received her master's from LSU and was a teacher for 37 years.
Thank you LSU for honoring these Natchitoches trailblazers and their legacy of paving the way for African American educators!!

Natchitoches Parents and Community,
As many of you have become aware, new Title IX regulations have been adopted by the federal government. These regulations have the potential to have far reaching impacts in our schools.
The Board shares the concerns of the community and is taking immediate legal action, along with other districts in the state, to prevent the implementation of these new regulations in Natchitoches Parish Schools. President Benefield will convene a special called meeting on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 5pm in the NPSB Title I Media Center to express the board’s opposition to the proposed changes and to join the State of Louisiana and other Louisiana school districts in a federal lawsuit.
To read the full statement from the Board and to view Dr. Brumley's letter to school system leaders, please visit https://www.npsb.la/article/1573127/.

The weather has cleared! All NPSB schools and offices will reopen tomorrow, Thursday, April 11th.
We understand that many of our roads are still holding water and may be impassable. If your child’s bus is unable to pick them up for school due to road conditions, then that will be an excused absence.
If your child is a car rider and you are unable to make it down your road, please contact your school directly. All schools will work with parents on excusing absences related to impassable road conditions.
We hope everyone stayed safe during this storm and we will see everyone tomorrow!
